Some where there is a soap recipe that will bring relief to my fried florida skin! I'm on my 7th batch of so called dry skin soap recipes. All made soap but were not pretty. My biggest problem seems to be with trace. You watch people on video make the most beautiful soaps and the trace is so thin. My soaps pour like thickened pudding and 2 seconds later its spatula time to get the soap out. I like the homemade look but would like an option. Help with trace!

Welcome dryaligator! :)

I'm one of those soapers that actually likes pouring at medium to thick trace. It just works better for me.

Can you tell me more about your recipe and walk me through your procedure? It'll go a long way in helping us to troubleshoot and to be able to offer specific suggestions.

I think my biggest problem is not following the recipe completely and having to make adjustments last minute. I'm working with a friend who is measuring challenged! Still love her. This weekend I'm making a baby soap for my brand new grandchild and I'm working alone. All the soaps have turned out but each is somehow lacking--color, scent etc. Let me try this batch and I'll post again. Thanks for getting back to me.

Welcome to the forum!

By way of suggestion, for baby soap, I'd stick to a basic unscented uncolored castille (100% olive oil soap). It's the mildest soap you can use for a little one. I'd also run your numbers through a lye calculator like the one at soapcalc.net and use maybe a 7-8% superfat to ensure that your soap is nice and mild for your grandbaby.
