I've been playing for a bit now with a solid lotion recipe and had read (maybe on this forum?) that people tend to use equal parts beeswax or emulsifying wax, cocoa butter or shea butter and a liquid oil. I've experimented with many mixes of the above using jojoba oil, almond oil, cocoa butter, and shea butter and everything I make tends to feel very greasy when applied and lives my skin shiny even after rubbing.

Is this just typical for solid lotion, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for your help!

Julia

They are all oily - after all there's nothing in them that isn't (with the possible exception of the BW).

But you can mitigate that somewhat with the inclusion of 2% isopropyl myristate or fractionated coconut oil, or some use cornstarch (I don't like the feel of cornstarch, myself).

Yes they r very oily.
Myself...I love that.
Nice warm bath, solid lotion, good sleep, smooth skin in the morning, heaven.
Alot of recipe use shea butter. I don't any more due to it being sensitive to going grainy. I think its called fractionating or something.

yeah, I had to ask that too. Considering it's 2/3 oil usually, lol, it's going to be oily. Nothing you can do about it, that's just the way it is.

Lotion bar is like lip balm but bigger...lol...
I mad eone just to see and it is good to use on heals and elbows and such...the greesy feeling goes away in a minute or two.

My lotion bars are a touch greasy, but that's what I love about them. I use them on my heels and elbows before bed at night, and on my pregnant belly! I use a little FCO and that makes them a touch less greasy. Also, I prefer candelilla wax to beeswax in my lotion bars (half as much candelilla as beeswax) - I find I get more glide this way. As for grainy shea, I highly recommend the High-Melt Point Shea from MMS. I haven't had any grain issues since using this product. HTH!

I always find these lotions oily when you first apply them, but they absorb pretty quickly. I had to get used to that at first, too.

I just made my second lotion bar with hemp oil, jojoba oil, beeswax, mango butter and shea butter and I added a little bit of gardenia Fo from Peaks....OMG ...it smells devine.
It is sooo dry right now in San Diego.

haha! it is sooo dry right now in Minnesota as well. :D

I know mango and shea butters can get grainy in lotion bars, but does cocoa butter?
