I thought I would share my newest experience with you. By accident I ended up soaping directly in my 1000 gr / 2 pound silicone mold and my soaping life just got a whole lot easier and a whole lot neater!

Stress at work has been through the roof last week so the weekend was another soaping therapy weekend. I find something soothing and calming about watching the oils change into soap. I dissolved my lye. I melted my oils. I spaced out. I poured my melted oils into the mold without mixing it with lye. I spent a few minutes scratching my head in confusion why nothing was happening.

Panic!

Panic!

Light bulb!

I dumped the lye water into the mold and used the stick blender to mix the whole thing right in the mold. The sides of the silicone mold stretched to accommodate the blender. Reached trace. Pounded the mold on the kitchen counter to get bubbles out. Left it alone. Cleaned up. The loaf turned out just perfect. The loaf hardened up evenly and popped right out of the mold after 7 hours. Clean undamaged corners. Even gel. A real beauty.

This was the easiest soap batch I had ever made and as an added benefit there was very little caustic cleaning up! My whole cleanup consisted of an oily pot where I melted the oils, an oily spoon for breaking up the hard oils, lye water container and the stick blender. No fuss. No mess. Love it! I highly recommend trying this!! The only down side is that this method is reserved for single colored soaps.

So glad this worked out well for you. My molds aren't deep enough (or I fill them too full) or I might try it. Reminds me of a mix-in-the-pan cake my mom used to bake. :)

Maybe you could melt the oils directly in the mold too (in the microwave or oven) and save having the oily bowl to clean up as well. :)

This would make a dirty bowl, but just a soapy one, but you could do several colours.... After trace in the mold, pour some batter out and into a bowl (or two), colour both (or all) batter portions to your choosing and then pour the bowled batter back into the mold with the rest as an in-the-mold swirl! Soapy bowls are easier to clean than oily ones, especially if you wait until the next day. :)

I had wondered how feasible this would be.

I have some silicon cavity molds, which obviously wouldn't work, but I have considered scenting them individually.

This WILL be my next attempt  I love soap! I love planing recipes, making it, reading about it, cutting it, smelling it, watching it cure, selling it, bragging about it but I hate hate hate lining the molds with freezer paper and cleaning the soaping mess.

Soaping God's have taken a liking to me

I couldn't do this as once I add my lye to my oils my batter fills to the top of my silicone mold, if I stuck my blendr in there is would be a total fail and a mess too.

me too. my molds are tall and skinny, and the silicone ones are not tall enough. i can imagine once i burst the sb, the soap will fly out everywhere... making more mess... lol
