I couldn't find a more appropriate forum, so I hope this is posted in the right spot. Moved from General Chat
The last few times I made soap, it crumbled when I cut it and crumbled when I used it. When I first started making soap, I never had a bad batch. I think my soap became a disaster when I decided to be more creative with it.
Anyways, today I made my first batch of soap (HP) since many months ago, using up the rest of my oils, because I'm almost out of soap. After finishing the batch, I realized I somehow almost doubled the lye! I was only suppose to add 124.73g but ended up adding 234.95g. I don't know how the heck I managed this one, but I really can't afford to throw this batch away.
I refuse to accept throwing this batch away as an answer. I have plenty of lard which I could use to make more batches of soap. I was thinking about remelting the soap and adding some lard into the batch, enough to suffice for the excess lye. What do you all think? Will it work?
Before I get too serious, I'm going to double check my soap, once it cools and dries, by checking the ph level of it, and also making sure it doesn't have any lye pockets when I cut it. I'm almost positive I screwed up though.
This makes me so frustrated. All of the usable soap I have, which I'm running extremely low on, was from my very first batches when I really didn't have a clue what I was doing and I was just following tutorials. Now suddenly I know exactly what I'm doing but keep making stupid mistakes like this. I've lost so much soap, wasted so much money, I really cannot afford to throw this batch out. Why can't I just make a basic bar of soap without something going horribly wrong?? =(
