how do you get your oil out of the soaper choice 7lb jug

ARGGGGG MINE IS SOLID AND I AM THINKING OF BOILING SOME WATER and placing the jug in the pot

That's exactly what I did. I wouldn't suggest boiling the water though as I'd be afraid the jug would melt.

I put my jug in a large pot and filled with water. The water level only reached about half way up the jug, so I would periodically empty the melted oil out into the bucket I was transferring it to and put the bucket back in the water to melt some more.

I had my stove on the low setting.

A sink full of hot tap water will do, or go put it in your car out in the sun with the windows up.

For something I know will stay solid at room temperature, I either melt it all down or cut the jug in half and transfer it all into a clean bucket with an air-tight lid.

I just put mine in a slow cooker with water on low. It took a couple hours. What kind of oil it is it?

If it is palm you have to melt the whole thing and shake it well before you pour it into smaller containers.

I do the same as new12soap- I cut the jug open (with a box cutter) and transfer the contents into a clean, wide-mouth bucket with lid.

IrishLass :)

I heat water to about 150 and put the jug in, then wander off for thirty minutes or so. For oils that don't separate, you can then start the pour off. If I don't have an appropriate bucket, I use Tupperware containers to hold the stuff.

For palm, let it melt all the way, shake well, pour.

I love Soaper's Choice, but I am not a fan of jugs for solid oils. Just sayin', if they read this board. :)

THANK GIRLS i did end up boiling the water and placing the jug. I am going to HD tomorrow get me some bucket with lids. SMH.
any who the darn FO riced my batter.

Um... Pretty sure the last time I checked I was a guy.... :p you girls can't have all the soapy fun!

Me, too. Checking....yep, still a guy.

Strangely, I just transferred four jugs of the Soaper's Choice to buckets and Tupperware today.

For amounts that large, I filled the kitchen sink with very hot water, dropped the jugs in, and meandered off for two hours. Then poured, put them back in to finish melting, and poured again.

Annoying. But the oil prices can't be beat.

I put water in a pot on the stove on medium with the bottle on a dish cloth just to keep it off the metal. Then poured as it melted. Mine was CO, so no worries about stirring before pouring out into other containers. I keep my lard buckets, so I just filled those up and wrote CO on the top.

I did the same thing until I started buying in 50lb containers/boxes. When it's warm outside in my husbands man cave I'll just leave it to melt and then take what I need from there. My palm is a 50 lb block inside a bag inside 2 boxes from SC. I buy the homogenized version so I don't have to melt and separate.

I use a sharp box knife and cut the jug apart. A little more dangerous and perhaps more messy than melting in a hot water bath, but it works. I adapted it from how one can cut a heavy large box apart to get at the contents.

Cut the top off below the handle and (ideally) above the product line, although that doesn't always happen. Cut straight down the middle of each corner. You could cut down the middle of each side as well. Spread the "petals" of the cut sides apart to release them from the fat.

Yes, but I re-use those jugs for liquid soap. Especially now that I am trying to supply my sis-in-law with laundry soap, dish soap, and hand soap before I get married and move away.

This winter I had to put my 1/2 full 5-gal bucket of coconut in a sink of hot water to melt. I've already bought a new bucket and in the next month or two, I'll put outside to melt in the heat and transfer it.

I had some 7lb pails left over from another supplier.....thank goodness. I had to saw off the top of the jug and squeeze the oil out. It is a pain in the butt.

I have often struggled with posts picking a non-gender specific pronoun. I think the forum software should include the ♂ and ♀ codes. :)

I'm seriously considering using the generalist pronouns hir, hirs, and hir's.

Actually the current zeitgeist is leaning towards using 'they'. Which nags me because I had a very tough grammar teacher in school and 'they' is plural. But languages change, I keep telling myself.

I will never accept text speak though. :)
