Hello,
I am a new soap maker and i made plain castile soap. The batch came out looking like yellowish soap with white swirls--it's not obvious but maybe the lye and oils didn't mix well? perhaps i thought it traced too early?
it looks a smells like olive oil soap. Then after 2.5 weeks of curing i tried it and my hands were stinging :(!

if i wait longer will things change? and now that i made the soap wet will the curing time for that soap be longer than the rest?

what should i do with the 20 bars of castile soap i made?

was it 100% oo? how much lye and oils? it takes forever to cure, but shouldnt be zappy at 2 wks, did you mix the lye/water and oils til they were well mixed? they dont have to have a spoon trail, just mixed well.

Have you tried the zap test?

When I made my unscented Castille soap it set up as white bars of soap. It didn't have the swirls that you mentioned.

It is possible that you have poured the soap on false trace or had problems in either mixing the lye or the lye mixing with the fats. You can either rebatch your 20 bars or just chuck it out.

Good luck and I hope this experience does not turn you off from soaping.

Btw, there's a great thread about rebatching that you can check out:
