I have done searches on embossing soap stamps. What I've found is that embossing soap stamps press the letters into the soap. I'm interested in a soap stamp the gives raised letters. What would this be called, so I can do research on this term?
p.s.- I contacted Dave at lasercutz to ask about making this type of stamp. He mentioned he made one about a year ago, so I wanted to do some more research on this type of stamp. Any suggestions would be a great help...even if it's just the correct term, so I know what type of stamp I'm looking for.
Here's an image I found for reference to what I'm looking for.

Wow, I wouldn't have thought that would work very well, that the soap would have to be really soft and then the sides would squish out. That soap pictured above is in a dish, perhaps that's necessary to it working.

Anyway, raised design or lettering is called "bas relief" (pronounced bah relief) in the art world, so that may help you.

I tend to agree. You'd have to time it perfectly when the soap was just right. If you're supper dedicated to this you could make individual molds and pour the design but that is probably impractical for smaller quantities.

I can't add much, but it would really be a neat stamp if you could "pull it off" (hehe). I agree with soap-rat and boyago. It could be tricky.
You can't go wrong with Lasercutz. He does excellent work.
Let us know what you come up with.

When the Letters / Design is raised it's called "Relief"
Agreed it would be difficult to do with soap. Its challenging enough with a regular stamp.

Great comments, the squishing does make scenes on a standard bar soap. The case must be holding it together. I might have to re-think this type of stamp for bar soaps. Thanks for the correct term, as I will still search it.

I've actually got my brother working on a bas relief stamp (he makes them on his 3-d printer) and it's smaller so just a small section will be squished, the letters will be raised, and the rest of the soap is normal. I don't know if it will work yet, we are still designing it.

Bas relief is a term from sculpture where the sculptor raises an image above the background with no undercutting. Printers would call this embossing, meaning an image that is raised above the surface of the paper (or soap, in this case). Pretty much the same thing, just different industries. Debossing is the printing term for when the image is pushed below the surface. Most soap stamps deboss the design.

Soapman- do you KNOW that your image was made with a stamp? I would assume they have custom molds with their company name in the bottom.

Yes, I can see that this image was made with a stamp. I can see the round ring from where the stamp was pressed into the soap.
