Well it finally happened and I can not say I was not warned.

My hp soap changed visually for now.

I made this recipe
30 oz lard
10 oz olive oil
3.6oz coconut oil
4 oz of castor oil
4 oz palm unrefined I added 2 tsp of sugar to the lye water in the form of simple syrup (meaning I melted the 2 tsp in a small portion of the lye water)

I added 2 oz of raw shea, about an oz of glycerin and orange eo and orange berry fo (daystar) after cook. The shea melted and was really oily and may not have been incorporated into the mixture as good as I thought, I also added a moderate sprinkling of oatmeal, just regular quaker oats ground up

This was on 5/12, it is now 8 days later and my orange soap has darker orange swirls. If this were an orange cake it would almost appear to be mold or rot, but because the swirls are throughout the bar and appear to follow the pattern of how i glopped the soap in the mold, I'm wondering is this the unincorporated shea.

The bar itself soaps LOVELY, it is my favorite recipe.

What are the dark areas and will it get worse?

It could be the orange eo as well.
Are you sure your fragrance/essential oils were properly incorporated?
Shea that is not mixed in will more likely form "stearic spots", not darker swirls.
My thoughts are that it's the fo's/eo's.

could the FO have any vanilla notes in it? That would cause discoloration.

lets see it, im sure its good. I make hp a lot and it is marbled looking, but that what makes it cool and handmade.
