And.... I really must familiarize myself with ounces! I'm a metric girl and didn't realize what 48 ounces was exactly. That's some serious soap :p

It was 48 pounds! Depending on how thick you cut that is close to 400! bars of soap.

Pounds, ounces...argh!!! I wish there were one universal measuring practice! It throws me all the time *blushes*

A little more than 20 kilos.
That is a LOT of soap.

Yep, 20 kgs is a HUGE amount of soap. That got me thinking, I really wonder how much soap we'd use in a lifetime. I CBS'd doing the math, haha....

I have an essential oil blend of Peppermint and Eucalyptus. I did a trial batch and from memory I think it was at 3% - it hasnt cured yet and the fragrance has completely gone.
So I upped the percentage for some salt bars and the smell is still there (early days though).

Does anyone else find that Eucalyptus plus peppermint has a citrus smell? Might just be my blend??

I prefer spearmint - I have bars that are approx 8 months old that still smell strong.

I'm sure there have been threads on here before re spearmint vs peppermint, with spearmint being the preferred choice.

I made a spearmint/peppermint bar with peppermint tea as the liquid and the scent lasted a very long time for me... at least 6 or 8 months or more. One of my favorite bars of soap that I ever made. I am on my very last sliver from that batch! I do think spearmint lasts quite a while!

I have started recently to experiment spraying soap with a mixture of EO and alcohol.
As much as I wouldn't want to purchase an under-fragranced bar, I would be seriously pissed to have a soap fragrancing faked by applying a bit to the outside.

Amen to that. Be 100% accurate in your descriptions and your labeling and you won't buy trouble.

Yes, would be funny to sell "scent plated" soap (like you have gold plated jewels). Joke aside, I got this idea after forgetting to add the fragrance to a couple of batches, for my personal use.

But it got me thinking: during cure, the EO evaporates more towards the outside (since the outside layers are exposed to air). For this reason it could make sense to replace the evaporated amount, working from the outside towards the inside.
