Help....I made a batch of CP soap with pumpkin seed oil and it feels like play dough after 24 hours
My friend gave me the pumpkin seed oil and wanted gardeners soap.
So, being the newbie that I am, I designed my own recipe. Oops!
I ran it through Soapmaker
10%pumpkin seed oil
60% olive oil
20% coconut oil
10% Palm
I added 1 oz of orange cinnamon
And .5 oz of tree tea oil
Two tsp ground coffee

I poured the majority into a loaf mold and the rest into two bar molds.
I un molded one of the bars and it feels like play dough.
What do I do?
Can I remelt it and save it that way?
Hate to throw it away.
Maybe I should return to melt and pour:)

I got some pumpkin seed oil when I was in Austria recently and can't wait to use it but it's so precious I haven't even opened it yet.

This is maybe a stupid question but did you add lye and do the trace part?
How long was it in the mold?
Is it dark from the pumpkin seed oil?

I'm sorry I'm not experienced enough to give you an educated response what so ever.

There's nothing wrong with it! If its too soft for you to cut it leave it out of the molds for a day, or if its too soft to remove from the molds without damaging it just give it another day to firm up in them. Or 2 days, however long it takes. But the soap will be somewhat soft when you cut it, and will harden through the cure period.

Lin,
Thank you soo much for the reassurance. I will wait a couple more days. Lesson learned and something to put in my notes.

your recipe is a bit soft, high in liquid oils. how much water did you use? i think it's gonna be okay, give it a day or two to harden up. recipes with a lot of soft oils do need a longer time in the mold.

Emily,
I did the lye part and trace part. I did not put color in and it came out a dark beige. Not brown, not yellow, not mustard. Hard to explain. Good luck. Let me know what you do with it, I have a little left.

Dark beige... interesting. please post pics when it's done and cut. I'm dying to see the end result.
for now, it's hidden in a secret place in my kitchen next to the St. Germain.

All of my soaps have been on the soft side where it took 2 days before I was able to cut them. I also had a bit of a panic recently with my first castile where after 36 hours the soap was like pudding! I was reassured here as well, and 2 more days later I was able to cut the soap.

As I tell my mom, "It's fine. Just leave it alone. No really, it's fine. STOP POKING IT YOU'RE MESSING IT UP!" lol. With that high level of olive oil, a longer hardening time is totally normal.

BTW, when you say "cinnamon orange" is that an FO or an EO? If you used orange EO, that also may slow down the hardening.

NurseEmily, Pumpkin Seed Oil is lovely - it's often a gift for others when I go visiting in England. A rich green colour as an oil, with a delicious nutty smell and taste. Goes great with icecream.

As for the OP, I would be interested in seeing how much water it was, too.
