HI, I have been doing melt and pour soaps for a while now and have never had any of them change colors after sitting for a few weeks until now.

I made some crosses in different colors and packaged them in a set of three
I went to move some stuff around on my shelf and noticed the Blue cross
had turned a gray color and my Yellow cross is turning a tan color BUT the purple one is just fine. :/

Could this be due to the type of plastic bag I put them in?
I also made some easter eggs the same week and used the same blue
and they are fine!
They are wrapped in regualr shrink wrap.
The crosses have been placed in an EXTRA HEAVY 2mil poly bags
I use for packing tools at my regular job we had an unopened case
so I brought them home to use for the soaps.

Yes but what does not make sense to me is I made easter egg soap that same weekend I used the same batch of soap same color same fragrance everything and
my eggs soap look just like they did when I made them it is only the crosses that changed colors?
I made 3 sets of crosses and 3 sets of eggs thats why I was wondering if it could somehow be the packaging?
The eggs were just wrapped with walmart brand plastic wrap where as the crosses were put in a heavy duty industrial bags that was folded over and then sealed with tape maybe the lack of airflow through the heavy duty bag?
I am still just baffled at what it could be.
I just started selling my soaps at a local shop and it really bothers me that I went to check the stock and add new items and find my soaps discolored!
Might not have been so bad if they changed into a decent color but no I get an ugly greenish blue gray that looked rotten uuhhgg LOL

They're in a store? Does the store have them anywhere near windows? I've also heard of soapers who's soaps have turned colors due to certain lighting used in the store.

MP soaps do fine in air tight packaging, so I don't think it's the packaging.

Nope no windows.
I am in the VERY back of the store only windows in the place are up front.
I had a set I kept here at the house that I listed on Etsy and they turned as well, but I did let the soap sit on a rack on my counter for a few days and they were under a light before I got around to actually taking them to the store?
But they were fine the day I took them.
I never even checked the ones I had here at the house until I found the ones at the store had changed color.
I tend to forget about the soaps in the drawer I set aside for my Etsy shop since I havent had much luck selling on there. :(
And I really have no idea how long they had been that way since I didnt make it by to check my stuff for over a week because I had the flu so I was sending my sister by and she would not have known any difference so maybe it was the light I had them under here and they were in the color changing process before I took them and it just wasnt enough to be noticeable yet?

OK just had a DUH moment. Was talking to my sister who was here when I made the soaps she makes candles and sometimes she brings her stuff over and we craft together and share FO's when she had a bath and body safe or I have any that can be used for candles.
SO anyway she reminded me that sh had brought over 3 small bottles of color that came from a CHEAP soap kit her daughter for xmas it was from walmart I put a few drops of the blue in some of the blue soap I had mixed to see how it looked.
Maybe it was that? But then that dont explain the yellow crosses unless it had something to do with them being in the same bag together.
I do know that walmart soap kit was pretty bad she gave me a block of the left over clear soap and I cut it up it burned my eye when I was cutting it I went ahead and colored it scented it and poured it in the mold thinking the whole time I was going to end up throwing it out. I did I unmolded it and it actually partially melted my plastic mold and still burned my eyes!
Those should not even be sold for kids to use!!

I'm glad you found a possible culprit but angry and sad to hear an M&P kit caused you harm. I'm sad to say this, but it's probably an import. Almost everything at Wal-Mart is an import now, and some countries mislabel ingredients and get away with it because there's no checks. Glycerin was one of the misreported ingredients, but I can't remember what it was that was in there. It was something that goes in gasoline, or something flammable. I bet that's what burned you. Sorry to hear it. I would call Wal-Mart and complain, they should know what's in their products.

You know I stil have 2 bottles of the color she brought me and she still had an unopened soap kit there are NO ingredients posted anywhere on the soap or the colorants.
She took pics of the soap package and text them to me all it says is white soap base and clear soap base on each package and who it is distrubuted by.
I told her not to use that soap base I would give her some of mine instead (lord knows I have plenty!) lol and Ill be throwing the color away as well.
If it burned my eyes as bad as it did just cutting it up I would not even want my 7 year old niece washing with it!
She just wanted to be like her aunt and make soap AAWWW : )
