How do I figure out how much oils to use for one of these? Any one else make soap cakes? I think it will be a killer display for my booth!

I use one of the silicone bundt cake pans to make mine, and I figure for a 5lb batch. Fits perfectly.
I don't know how much size variation there is between bundt cake molds though...

Yes, the silicone bundt pan is perfect for soap cake. Here's one I made awhile back:

and I served it up on paper plates, like so:

It was quite a lot of work. I made 5 pounds of applejack soap, colored it green for some strange reason...then made a second 1 lb batch of soap for the 'icing', colored brown with cocoa powder. I spread it on quite thick, then used the back of a spoon to lift it here and there. The 'coconut sprinkles' are trimmings I save from all my soap bars. Sometimes I sell the trimmings in bags as 'bubble bath'.

Problem was: it looked and smelled edible, so it was difficult keeping people from drooling on it, LOL.

Have fun with yours!

Fill the mold with water and weigh how much water it took to fill the mold. Oils is slightly lighter than water. If you use the same amount of oil, you should have a tiny bit extra.

watch out with pink sugar, it discolors, i made mine pink and it didnt stay pink, looked ugly, but smelled good!
I always wonder about soap cakes, do you make soon enought to cut, and ask people to wait to use? otherwise it would be too hard?

Re cutting... I just went to cut up some of my bars into small samples to use for my (different) business. Bars that were 6-8wks old were still quite easy to cut with a sharp knife, I would think with a sharp, perhaps wet, knife the soap cakes would be fine as well. Haven't done it though, so feel free to slap me silly and tell me I'm wrong, LOL!

I have absolutely no use for a soap cake since I don't sell soap, but they sure are pretty and I really *want* to make one for no reason at all! :D

I was in luck at Christmas time at the dollar store and was able to buy 6 small bunt cake molds. They hold about 6oz of soap. They were a hit. Mine was Lemon poppy seed scented with Lemon and Lemongrass EOs. They were a good size and still fit the hand.

I'm so excited to try my first soap cake, my cathedral bundt mold is in transit so soon....
