My wife called laughing yesterday because she received a bar of CP at work as a gift and found it humorous because of the amount of time I put in to researching the exact item she had just been gifted. After she stopped laughing about the irony she told me she would bring it home for me to critique...

So here we go... WHEW BUDDY!

My sinus' were pouring just after opening the end of the nicely and professionally packaged "All Vegetable Oil with EO's of Lavender and Jasmine" and taking a whiff. It was fairly strong just sitting on the counter unopened and then unleashed it's power on my olfactory nerves as soon as I opened it. The scent was so strong I quickly closed the paper back with the label I had just cut and tossed it on the counter. Maybe it's just me but I'd prefer anybody using my soap not to have an allergic like reaction because the scenting is so strong. The bar was 10.5oz and white as snow. Had no official ingredients list on it so I couldn't tell which vegetable oils were actually used in the making but I'm not sure I'll even allow this to sit on a shelf at our house without being in a plastic bag let alone be used. I didn't take it out of the packaging because of the initial reaction so I can't tell much more about the actual bar of soap.

My nose hasn't crossed paths of too many CP soaps but is this the norm of what people expect? Maybe I'm overreacting but I had something a little more subtle in mind when making my soaps which I'm very new at. I can live with the smell as long as the soap is gifted and out of my house ASAP!

At that scent load, no way is that real jasmine EO. Must be a FO. And if it's eye-watering strong, the use rate probably exceeds the manufacturer's recommendations.

For the record, I prefer a moderate scent level. I scent at .5 oz per pound of oils as a general rule.

My mom is sooo gonna love this soap.
She likes 'em stroonngggg...
I even stopped making cp for her coz no amount of fo can satisfy her :(
I echoed judy, i think it's fo..

Besides being super strong, do you like the smell? Possibly you could leave it wrapped and put it in a closet or something.

I have a friend that when I visit him, I bring tons of soap for his family. His grandmother "saves" it and puts in in her drawers like a sachet. Though it's interesting b/c I can see how my bars of soap are after 5+ years!

I am seriously considering making her a bunch of 100% lard or soy or something cheap with 0 superfat for her drawers, so maybe she will use the actually nice soap with olive oil, shea butter, etc.

I feel like after it mellows a bit (however long that may take) it may be a scent that I would like. I tend to get over bad experiences easily and move on so maybe I'll do as you suggest and stash it away to be found another year.

It just blew my mind how potent this was. Very few times have I been brought to tears in my life but guess what, this bar of soap succeeded like a freshly peeled onion!

I don't want the scent of my soap to slap me in the face, so I tend to go very very light on the scents, whether EO or FO. You may want to take it out of the package when you find a place to stash it so the scent fades faster. Lavender tends to be a popular scent but that is one I have to go very light with, it affects my hay-fever. I make some for friends that like it, but I give it away as soon as it's cured.
