Right now, I have my store on ecrater (free) but they have limited options for shipping. I have it set up right now so that 1-4 items are one price (they fit into a flat-rate small box) 5-10 items are another price (next sized box) etc.

I was browsing Etsy to try to decide whether it's worth putting a shop there, and see some really low shipping fees. For instance, $1.50 for a bar of soap, $3.00 for a body butter, etc. I know it costs more than that to ship these items. I sent a 4 oz. jar of body butter to a friend this morning in a tight-fitting box and the cheapest postage was $4.90. A bar of soap in an envelope would be demolished by our PO, so there goes that idea!

So, are people taking a loss on shipping to get sales, or are people counting on buyers purchasing multiple items where one could actually come out even on the shipping fees? Or do some luck out and have post offices that don't mangle soaps shipped in padded envelopes?
