Shea butter smells weird?

I have natural shea butter from Crafter's Choice that I bought in August, and it smells kind of mildewy or something. The last batch I had was from Bulk Apothecary, I had a little left after 4 years and it smelled great - still nutty and sweet. Why would the new stuff stink?

It might have gone rancid. Shea butter smells terrible honestly, but if it doesn't smell like it should, it may have gone bad.

Is the shea butter refined or unrefined? Unrefined shea butter has a different odor than refined.

It's refined, but not organic. I've smelled all kinds; I'm pretty sure it's gone off.
