With colour treated hair (I have that) stay away from Coconut & Palm Kernel Oil. You didn't say what colour your hair is coloured but you can also look at adding appropriate herbs which you will infuse into your oils for a couple of days before making it. Look to Jojoba oil, avocado, apricot kernel, olive oil, lots and lots of castor oil, & butters. I do use tallow, but if you prefer not to then palm is the switch-out for animal oils. And use a conditioner, either your own (Susan's blog has great recipes for those) or commercial but it is important. I'm talking about a proper conditioner, not a rinse.
