Hi,
I'm a newbie, I just make my first 1-pound cold process soap today. I used the milk carton as the soap mold. However, after 3 hours as I looked at my "soap" and I saw the separation between the yellowish liquid and the oil layer... :(( What should I do :((
I use olive oil, coconut oil and Castor oil to make my soap. :( I wasn't sure if I got false trace... I stirred my soap mixture for 45 mins but it was not thick and hard yet. It was a little thick.
I watch the clip from this website:
http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to/video ... ng-204599/
I thought my soap mixture was in light trace or medium trace, thus I poured it into the mold.
And now, I saw the separation :((
What should I do guys ? Please help me, I don't want to throw them out.
:((
Wendy

you can either dump it back in your bowl and start stirring again, or put it in a crockpot or similar and HP it.

Thank you so much for the reply:D
I poured it out of the mold and stir again, then I incubate it in the oven for several hours with low heat. :D And now it turn solid :D
Thanks ,
Wendy

Separation....please HELP!

Castor oil and olive oil can make for a very slow trace. Of course, we don't know what your recipe was or the percentages, but you might want to consider using another solid oil in your mixture...such as tallow or palm oil or lard. I use a basic recipe of Olive, Palm and Coconut with just a tiny bit of castor. Sometimes, I use lard instead of Palm. I like to use those milk cartons as well. It is so easy to just pull them away from the soap and discard. The slightly waxy insides make for easy removal. You have to insulate pretty good though as the carton does not provide any natural insulation like the wooden molds do. Also, did you use a stick blender? That helps to bring a batch to trace much much faster than just hand stirring.

:D

I was making 100% lard soap and had it separate on me! So poured it out of the mold, cleaned the mold, brought the stuff to med trace and poured again. And 3 hours later - it had separated on me. I gave up and just stick blended it right in the mold (I got away with it this time, but don't recommend it).
