another "slow" oil is lard. I find palm makes things move faster, but if I replace it with lard then things slow down again.

Ok if I understand what you were saying ..... a recipe with 40% olive 30% Lard and 20% coconut leaving the other 10 % for SF oils would be a safe soap to use for FO's that are finiky ......... or did I miss the boat here?

Here's my recommendation for a new FO.

Soap with at least 30% olive, and a total of at least 40% liquid oils
Soap cool - I'm talking no more than 90 degrees for both the lye water and the oils (melt, mix, cool)
Use full water. Well, no more than a 30% lye concentration
No additives that cause problems - no clay or oatmeal which can "take up" some of the water and thus accelerate trace

Yup, I agree, I was going to ask what lye concentration you were using. At any rate, if you absolutely cannot get a FO to work in CP and you absolutly love it there's always HP. No worries about siezures. :)

What exactly is "siezing"?
I only use soy and or canola and never had any problems. I have had ricing happen when hot processing biodiesel glycerin and stearic acid but never with the oils.

Picture your whole bowl turning to a solid mass....lol. I cut the sucker this morning. It'll just be for personal use because I had to hack away at it. The top turned to a lovely feces color when trying to smoosh it all into the mold, because of all the colors I used. SO had to go. So now they're narrow lame bars but still yummy, so....I don't mind ugly at home.

They would've been cool too. Rats. Here it is, in all it's morning-after seized glory:

Nah, they're okay for just me and my fam. Thanks everyone. I'm gonna try the stuff carebear posted, in the future. Appreciate the advice!

Those are very pretty LJA . Can you keep us posted when you try the suggestions out?

LJA they look lovely.
Nobody would've know you had issues with that batch if you didn't tell us.
You wouldn't be able to repeat that if you tried, you know that don't you?
