Well, made three batches yesterday and only one turned out as I'd like.

I made a salt soap with BB's Energy and envisioned sparkling life forces, so colored the base with a load of 24 karat gold and a swirl with a load of Copper Penny. Where was my head? Hope springs eternal and irrational, I guess, because there is zero sparkle- just blah base and brownish swirl. Not really reminiscent of energy, I would say. Oh well. That's the one on the left.

Middle one is BB's Cranberry Fig. The inside of the soap has drifts (it didn't really swirl- the color came out in waves and got pushed toward the edges) of the two blues and then I used the mica and oil mixes of the two blues and a little chameleon glitter and swirled them. I don't mind the dents because I like the intensity of the colors. They don't bring to mind cranberry fig, but I like the overall look.

The one on the right looks way better in the picture. It's Bergamot and Mandarin and I put a strip of umber and tangerine pop down the middle, then overlayed mica and oil mixes of GEmstone green and Gold Lame. I swirled it once but I thought the pattern was too big, so went over it again. Mistake! The gemstone green disappeared and left this dreadful khaki/olive color and the gold just looks blopped in there. It's really quite ugly on top. The bottom looks okay- you can see the two orange colors but none of the drab green, so I may have to carrot peel the top off once it's ready. I hope the top swirl didn't go too deep!

I hope everyone else had a good soaping weekend!

Thanks, guys!

Well, these are all slab soaps so the look when they're cut isn't so different. I'll post a pic of the salt bar, which was my biggest disappointment. The copper color stayed on the top and didn't really penetrate the soap, although I thought it had. The blue soap has some (hopefully) color in it but I didn't gel, so I have to wait a bit to see what I got. I might cut tonight. The orange soap, or the khacki soap, whichever, I will post once I've pared off the dreadful tops and we'll see what evolves.

I have a bad case of swirl envy from Sauron's soaps.

Thanks!

I'm going to be watching to see if swirling in small amounts of mica just suspended in oil causes any problems. I found an older bar that I made developing DOS and I suspect the issue is mixing the micas in oil beforehand and causing super superfatted patches of soap. It was only around one color in the bar so I don't know what will happen with that little bit of oil that sits atop the soap with this type of swirl. I'll be really bummed if it does, because this technique makes it possible to use and see some of the extraordinary micas from TKB. Keeping my fingers crossed!
