Val - I will post back about the different percentages but it will be awhile.

I do the same as nattynoo. I use soapcalc and leave it at the default setting of 38%.

Saltydog (or anyone else),

Did you have to line your individual molds or use anythign else so you can get the soap out? Or do they just pop out by pushing on the mold. I got some plastic individual molds to make my salt soap and I'm not sure if I should prep them or not? Thanks!

Oh, and one more question, do you fragrance your salt soaps or not? I don't know why fragrancing would be any different but I just wanted to double check. I prefer using EOs. Haven't tried FOs yet.

The cavity molds I use are silicone so they pop out. Last year, I did use a plastic mold for a batch. I think I had to put it in the freezer to get the soaps out.

I have used both EOs and FOs in salt bars. I don't use a high percentage of scent in my soaps but I add extra in salt bars since I usually add about 80% salt to the batches. Although I don't know if this is necessary.

I used heavy duty plastic molds, I did not line them and the soaps just popped out easily. I fragranced my salt bars also, but to be truthful, I've only done two batches so far, but both seem to be holding scent very well.

Thanks everyone! Driving home from Nevada tomorrow, then I think I'll give the salt bars a try. Five more days of vacation to work on soap!

I've been using EO's as love lavender salt bars and peppermint salt bars.

I put my salt saop in silicon muffin trays ... easy to pop out!

I was going through my notes and I found out that the salt bar batch I liked the best had 75% not 80% like I had thought. I also found that the batch from February was 100% and it's my least favorite. Of course, that might not be from the salt but could just be my bad recipe.
