Hiya

Made my second batch of bath bombs today

I made them using ball shaped molds and they looked nice
problem is that now after a few hours they've sunk down into themselves so they look like donuts (the no hole version)

Why?

Could somebody please tell me what am I doing wrong?

Is the mixture too moist and, like I mentioned in a previous post, that they begin the fizzing reaction on a miniature scale thus making pockets of gas within the bombs?

Cool.. thanks..

As I suspected then
I guess I'm going to have to make a new batch and use one squirt of water less and if that don't work make one with yet one squirt less and so on until I find the right mixture

Risky business these bath bombs

Thanks

That's true, that's what the recipes I've seen say too. I was just using water on the first experimental batches to get the proportions right (because the same recipes didn't seem to give me a moist enough mixture).

Does anybody know if Witch Hazel does anything in particular in the bonding of the mixture?

I guessed that it was just preferred because of having been distilled and because of having some healing properties.

I read that other floral waters can be used as well.

i dont use witch hazel or water, i just use the oils and that has stopped the warting problem for me.

Krissy what a great idea! I do use oils but never enough to get it sticky enough to stay together - I'll try that this week - I have more bombs to get made - thanks

LyeHurts - the witch hazel is used to get it moist enough to stick together, but I really like Krissy's idea. You only want it moist enough that when you take some and squeeze it in your hands it holds it's shape.

Yeah definitely good idea
duh stupid water and witch hazel

I just made some using only fragrance oils
Used a bit of food coloring too though (and it had water in it, grrr..) so it started fizzing away a bit but I mixed it up quickly and pretended like it never happened.

I have to get some of those dry pigments for next time
