I have seen that PP 5 and PETE 2 seem safe for mixing soap (others as well). Some of my FO's come in PETE 2 and those seem to hold up fairly well but HDPE warps fairly quickly. I see some bottles are listed as PET and they say they are safe for storage of FO's for some months. I know glass is the best but shipping is very expensive. If I were looking at a plastic bottle for relatively short-term storage, are the PET ones safe? I can't find if PET is congruent with PETE 2. Does anyone know?

Do you mean PETE #1? I ask because I've never seen a PETE #2 bottle, although I've seen PETE #1 quite often.

In any case, from all that I've read, PET and PETE (short for polyethylene terephalate) do seem to be one and the same thing. I've also read that as far as plastics go, PET or PETE is the preferred plastic for storing FOs.

Some of my oldest FOs are in PETE #2 bottles. No warping or anything. The bottom has the PETE 2 on it. In looking online, I find PET bottles but in going through all the info, it doesn't designate a number and I wasn't certain if they were the same thing. Thanks for the info, Irishlass.
