I was going to make some soap today but the recipe calls for 20% coconut oil and I have run out! is there anything I can subsistute for this?:?:

You can substitute palm kernel oil (not palm oil) or babassu oil for CO -- these three fats have roughly the same fatty acids.

If you don't have any of these 3 fats, you probably need to rethink the recipe to be more of a lard-palm-tallow based soap. Add bubble-age with castor, if you've got it, and/or sodium citrate, sugar, beer, or other additives that encourage lather. I might also add a goodly dollop of something like olive.

If you post the recipe and the oils you have on hand, maybe we can suggest reasonable alternatives.

thanks soo much

Hi thanks I have got pko so will use that, unfortunately in the uk it is 21.30 and all the shops are closed and there are none near me where I can buy coconut oil , how I wished I lived in the states !! you are so lucky to be able to get allyour soaping ingredients from your stores - I looked in my local shops yesterday and all I can get is olive oils and lard  perhaps I will have to come over just to stock up

thanks again
