I just save a copy of the spreadsheet for each soap recipe. I use text boxes for my method and notes. If I want to reuse the recipe with or without tweaks, just do a "save as", edit the new file as needed, print a worksheet, and go forth and soap.
For my PhD dissertation, I created a model of herbicide and nitrate degradation in the soil in response to weather conditions and time. I first created the model in Excel and then transferred it to Visual Basic when I finally had the model tweaked to my satisfaction. Yes, it was cumbersome in Excel, but Excel made it easier to make quick changes in response to my research and help me see quickly what the model was doing in response to my tweaks.
