Replacing Lard in CP Recipes

Hi there,

Quick newbie question: I've been spotting some recipes I'd like to try that include lard, but I'm going for the all vegetable approach - can you replace lard with palm or palm kernel oil, assuming you run it through the lye calculator first? Is that the closest "vegetable" facsimile? Thanks!

Imo palm oil is the closest and yes, definitely run it through a lye calculator first. Palm adds hardness and creaminess along with some moisturising. PKO on the other hand, adds hardness and cleansing with bubbly lather. HTH!

Yep, palm is closest to lard and is a good substitution.

PKO, on the other hand is nothing like lard (or palm oil for that matter- totally different properties))- it's much more like coconut oil.
