How do I get red cp soap? Anyone can rec me on a place where I can buy the colorant? Is it possible to get a bright red color? or just the more dull darker reds?

I bought a neon red from TKB, haven't tried it yet, but it looks more pink than red.

It would be great if those of you that have made red soaps could attach pics together wit the name of the colorant u used and where u got it from.

If you have a look in the photo gallery I have some soap with red in it and it was liquid red colour and Australian Red Reef Clay. I'm in Australia so not sure where you are to tell you where to buy it.

I found some cheap food colorant, which gives a really mean red. You must have some shop in your area selling stuff like baking flavors and food colors.

When you buy it, try mixing it with a little lye to see if your red works.

Relle9, I saw your soaps in the photo gallery! I'm loving that soap wit made with the swirled top layer. But wondering if its acually possible to get a brighter red? I'm thinking its quite unlikely isn't it?

Fragola, wouldn't food colorant stain skin? And I've read that even after pouring the soap, the color will still morph over time. How have ur soaps held up with food colorants?

I mix neon red with a darker red to get the right color.

Food coloring isn't high pH stable. It can morph and fade. I wouldn't waste oils by attempting to use it.

Someone recommended Merlot Sparkle mica for a true red. I'm sorry I don't remember now who said it so I can't give credit to the person. I do remember she posted a picture and it was a beautiful red. It was of a soap she did for Christmas.

Yesterday, I ordered Merlot Sparkle Mica! Great to hear it recommended here on SMF.

I'd like to order some but shipping is so expensive from BB to me. I'm resigned to doing without it. :(

I expect to see pics from you!

I have the merlot sparkle. I used a lot and only got this pink:

I got the suggestion from a thread here but it didn't work out like I wanted, at all :(

For CP, I only did some small test batches, last week and another one yesterday.

It doesn't seem to change colors sofar. When you say it will morph over time, do you mean weeks or months ?

I used it for a glycerine soap some time ago, and it didn't stain the skin. I believe you can guide yourself by the lather: if the lather is white-ish, it probably won't stain the skin.

Whoa. Watermelon? Is the green done with mica as well?

I'm sorry. I could have sworn she said Merlot mica from BB. I'm pretty sure it was the name of a wine. I went and looked for the post but I couldn't find it. Maybe she mixed the Merlot with another color.

I'll look again for the post. I guess this should teach me not to pass on info I don't know from personal experience.

No, I read the same post, it was the reason I bought that color lol

herbaliser, it was supposed to be red/green for christmas (scented with Peak Hollyberry & Ivy). The green is green chrome oxide from BB.

No Hazel I am quite sure your correct I remember reading to mix the merlot sparkle with the red oxide but like yourself cannot remember where I read it

Thanks Lyn! I'm starting to think I read about it somewhere else because I can't find the post.

Moonblossom -

That's a beautiful red and your soap is lovely.

I have gotten a nice red using TKB colorona bordeaux but you do have to use a lot. I've only used it for accent colors and can't imagine how much you'd have to use to color a whole batch. On occasion, I think I've used too much because now and then I will have some separation but only the parts with that color in it. I don't know why the mica would cause that, but it's happened several times.
