Recommendation For New Scale

Hi everyone!

I am looking to get a new scale and was wondering if anyone has any good recommendations? Looking for something that is accurate of course and can go up to 10 pounds or so and weighs in grams too.

My current one I got a few years, but the display on it is starting to act up and I think it may be time to replace it.

Very nice! Thank you for that suggestion and yes to the AC adapter too. I'm no fan of having to replace batteries over and over again lol.

I've been using a cheap Wal-Mart one, only $20 and it's fine, oz and grams. If I need to weigh small quantities that go to 1/10 gram I have a little jeweler's scale, also cheap, got it off Ebay. For both I just make sure I have plenty of batteries on hand, having totally messed up a batch when the battery went.

I got this one at Harbor Freight for $20. I've only had it a week, but it has performed well. It came with an AC adaptor. The only negative - and I would not buy it again solely for this reason - is that it has a non-defeatable 40-second auto shutoff. I has assumed this would be overridden when plugged in, since it is a battery saving feature. But alas, no.

Shhh...don't tell him. Saved me another $20 that I spent on citric acid! :wink:

And yes, the auto-shutoff is annoying as all get-out unless you're one of
those people that can instantly recall everything they see, like the last
weight on the scale before it shut off :roll:

as if there aren't enough suggestions,...and they all are good.

It's light and accurate. 50 gr test weight showed 50.0 gr.
Turns off automatically after three minutes, my old scale would turn off in 30 seconds! So annoying.

I have a question about the KD-7000. Does it have a way to disable the auto shut-off? The directions said that it did, but either I was not understanding the directions or it didn't work on my model. I am not sure if I was just reading it wrong, because the instructions were not very clear to me at least. If anyone can explain how to shut it off, I would greatly appreciate it

I have the KD-8000 and the directions are the same.

With the scale off, press and hold both the Power and Hold keys at the same time.
The scale will go through it's cycle on routine then finally beep.
Release the Power and Hold keys.
Press the Mode or Unit button until nb0 displays. nb0 is no auto-shutoff; nb1 is 2 min and nb2 is 5 min.
Once nb0 is displayed, hit the Tare button, It should display Off 0.
Hit the Tare button to confirm. Sometimes when I hit the Tare button to confirm, it changes to Off 1 or Off 2. Just press Tare until it gets back to Off 0, wait a couple of seconds, then hit Tare to confirm.

I sometimes have to do it a couple of times to get the settings to display right. But, keep doing the steps above. Just remember to turn off the scale to start over.

Thank you so much! My problem was not starting with the scale off. I was doing all the other stuff, but starting with the scale off was not clear in the instructions to me...

Yeah, they don't make that clear in the instructions. I think I played around with it for a while then tried that. Glad it worked for you!!

It's a great scale, I need to get another one.
