Have been loving my salt soaps made with Irish Lass' method/formula, and needed to test some Daystar FOs for A & D, so took the opportunity during a recent much needed vacation.

Bird of Paradise wasn't SB'd enough, so separated on me - had to toss the whole batch.

Felicity & Sweet Oblivion became instant cement on a stick and ended up going down the garbage disposal for the most part (I managed to salvage 1 rough bar of Felicity before it became completely solid) - on the bright side... I have a very clean disposal!

You're making me want to try a salt bar! (Great photography and wonderful notes!) Very nice!

Thanks for the beautiful photo spread and scent review!

I think it is amazing that vanilla discolors a salt bar so much, since normally more color is needed in a salt soap, at least for me.

How did you cut them so they do not have crumbly edges? how soon after pouring did you cut?

I have been making salt soap but use silione molds. It is OK, but looking at your beautiful soaps I feel the log type molds have more swirling room. I am just afraid they will crumble on me.

I think the bars look great and appreciate the FO reviews. I'm sorry you had problems with some and you ended up having to toss some batches.

@green soap I actually didn't make these in a log. I used the BB silicone square multicavity mold... way too scared to try a log with salt bars lol Some set up almost immediately, like the Eucalyptus Spearmint and Juicy Baby I would have to cut those within like 10 mins of pouring in a log. Others, like the Vanillas, I'd probably have to wait 2 days. Just too hard to gauge when to cut in a log, for me >.<

@Hazel Lost batches are really on me... if I ever get around to putting on my big girl pants and learn how to rebatch properly, I'd be tossing less lol

Thank you all for the encouragement :)

Oh my goodness....your soaps look amazing. What recipe did you use and would you be willing to share?

@Pamela The credit for my recipe goes to the wonderful generosity of Irish Lass, our newest moderator :D

The method she's shared with us is:

100% Coconut Oil
100% Coconut Milk (I use 50% water, 50% Coconut Cream)
13% Superfat
25% Salt

On all of these batches I used 2.5:1 Water:Lye ratio, as I was testing new FOs and didn't know which of them would accelerate badly or not (hence the batches that I had such a hard time reaching trace with), so the fat content from the cream is quite high. I'll probably redo the ones that traced slowly with a 40% lye concentration + Sea Salt (rather than the table salt I used in these) and see what I get (just cause I can't resist poking the bear! )

very beautiful soaps! You have inspired me to try the salt bars!

Also (I am a photographer and G. designer) your photo's are lovely, very mood inspiring, and great text choice

Your photos look amazing!
The lighting and angles look fantastic..as does your soap (LOVE that Black Tie Affair) Thanks for sharing all your info, I love me some salt soap :)

Thanks so much for sharing Midnight Rowan and Irish Lass. The salt bars look amazing....I haven't seen salt bars until I started peeking around this forum. They are so intriguing I think I'm going to have to give these a try

Thank you all so much for the encouragement :D The comments on the pictures are nice as well... tells me I'm getting better (have had such a struggle with this), and that the lovely camera my daughter gifted me with at Yule is making up for my lack!

you have a natural ability at framing the subject, just need to watch the background a bit (by adjusting your angle), but that will come with time and experience...they look great!

So this is probably a really stupid question....but how do you do swirls in the individual silicone molds?

My recent salt soap was almost lost to the cinnamon clove acceleration monster. I managed to stick it in the molds but have a lot of gaps. Air pockets? no, GAPS. It is OK, it will still work.

I use same method, just on a smaller scale ^^ thin trace helps with this, as you don't have much room to move things around :)

As far as the air gaps go, I had quite a bit of that with the faster moving FOs too =( still works, as you said, just not photo-worthy lol
