I wonderful, lovely soaping angel sent me a clump of cruelty free tussah silk to try. I keep forgetting to add it, so I am no help whatsoever, but I am going to follow this thread now :)

Thanks for all of the replies! I did order some cruelty free silk the other day. Just waiting for it to arrive! I am worried about the dissolving issue that was brought up. Guess I better get a strainer. I don't strain my lye. I usually soap using the thermal soaping method, which sounds like that will change when I am using silk.

That's a sign that you need to try again ;)

 I was just thinking about this today. Part of why this bothers me so much is that I HATE being wasteful. And seeing that silk in the bottom of the strainer.......ugh:crazy:.....anyway. So I have decided that if I do use it then I will rinse and save what is left in the strainer. Ahhh! Now I can feel better about that not being wasted. And I am going to do a side by side test with a few soaps that have/have not silk. That way I can see for myself the differences. I am also going to do a test with equal portions of silk. I will put one in the lye water(before I add lye). And I will just wet the other. Then I will compare whats in the strainer after straining the lye and the wet silk. I think all these things will help me decide if silk in soap is for me.......or if I will stick with keeping in my scarves
