Hello:)
I hear a lot about shelf life and preservation of lotion bars. But I am new to producing them, and am not sure how I will know when they go bad. Will they stink? Will they get moldy? If they still look and smell the same should I assume they are still good? Any advice will be appreciated! Thank you!

They will last as long as the shortest shelf life oil. For instance if you used Hemp Oil they will last about 6 months and yes they will start to smell bad when they go off. If you are putting a best before date on it, put it to the best before date of the most fragile oil.

Hope this helps

You can look up the shelf life of the oils/butters you used and go by shortest one. For example, if you used cocoa butter which has a shelf life of 2-5 years and added grapeseed oil which only is good for 3-6 months, your bar would only have a shelf life of 3-6 months. You can add vit E oil to prolong the life as it is an anti-oxidant and will prevent rancidity. Swiftcraftymonkey has great info on this. As far as I know the way to tell if it's gone bad is just to smell it. As long as it's just oils being used it won't get moldy.
