Question for people that have made confetti soap....

Gonna need black bits in a design. concerned about the amount/severity of drag marks with poppy seeds vs black bits of soap?
Logic says soap. But an old bit of soap may be just as hard as a seed? do you have a "do not use nothing older than..."? Do you wait a bit longer to cut loaf? I need so little and a mostly 7 weeks old black soap. Still cuts and chops easy. But it is not inside a fresh loaf. Thanks for looking.

I don't know how old any of my confetti is-- I make so little soap, that if I have confetti it gets stored until I want to use it. I can't remember ever having drag marks from a soap confetti soap.

It doesn't matter the age. I keep it stored in plastic ziplocs and will use them on occasion.

I have used old, hardened confetti soap bits that I chopped to use in a new soap. It worked but I did have to use a knife to cut the bars as it felt it was a strain on the soap wire cutter

I make confetti soap all the time. The confetti could be anywhere from 2 months to a year old or more. I've never had a problem with dragging, but I've never used a wire cutter, only a knife.

If my confetti soap is really old I chop it in the right size and then lightly spritz the confetti with water. It will be softer in 30 minutes when I make soap. I haven't had a problem cutting when I do that. Actually, I like some older confetti. The soap at cure may have textured look as the new soap shrinks more than the confetti. I like the look but better the soap seems to last longer and I suspect it is the differences in the old and new soap combined together.

I haven't ventured to confetti soap yet - haven't made enough soap to have much scrap yet but a question: I just made a salt bar which may have to be scrapped because I used too much clove oil in it - do you think I can grate this and use it in another soap? At a smaller concentration would it be ok do you think? Thanks,

I've used old hard confetti bits (literally some as old as 10+ years old) soap as normal, use my wire cutter to cut and have never had a problem with a strain on my wire cutter, or a drag marks from them being old.
I always try and gel my soap, and I believe the heat from the gel, softens the confetti bits, which makes it a non-issue with the wire cutter.
I'm not 100% sure that they all gel though, (I'm not a peeker, never have been) so I think even if it doesn't gel, cutting with a wire cutter would not be a problem.

Salt soap doesn't grate and make the little bits like other soap. It will be more crumbly, can even be powered easily if you like.

Yes, it can be added to new soap. Last time I had to do this, I used half crumbles, half new soap batter. It was pretty thick, almost like oatmeal but the bars turned out well. I'm using up the last bar now.
I did use my regular salt soap recipe for the new batter.

2 months ago I made several small batches of soap in several different colors and after 7 weeks I grated every one of them into confetti. I stored them in separate bags so I could customize my confetti soap. Some of my trimmings are 5 months old.

I use all of my soap trimmings and log ends to grate into new batches. I color them by melting them down as in rebatching and adding small amounts of colorant, then grating them up again. Another thing I do with them is to cut or grate coarsely and put them in a dish by the sink to be used as hand soap.
