The second batch of soap I made I used oatmilk in place of the water and love the way the soap turned out. Today I am trying Rosemary Mint (again; was disastrous the first time I tried it  ) and decided to use oatmilk in this batch also. I don't know what the difference is this time but when I added the lye the oatmilk completely thickened up (like oatmeal LOL), and since I'm HP this soap I'm wondering if I should add any additional liquid to thin it down, and if that will throw off any other calculations? I did run my recipe through soapcalc and already added extra water to account for the HP, but this is just so thick....what do y'all think?

PS I'm sorry I keep asking all these questions but the search feature isn't working for me?! It never brings up a single thread that has anything to do with what I'm searching for!

70 views and no responses? Hmmm...has nobody here ever used oatmilk for their liquid before?? Well, I did yesterday and I'm very happy with the results of my soap!

Well, I have used oatmilk, but mine has never thickened up like that. But I will say that I once watched a video on youtube and the lady making soap used oatmilk and hers did get real thick like you described. it was thick and gloppy when she poured it into her oils.

I've used it twice now; the first time it didn't get so thick and that's what threw me the second time. I ended up not adding any extra liquid (which I'm thankful for!) because once it was mixed into the oils it thinned down to just a normal mixture. It still took a while to get to trace also. I think maybe the difference between the first and second time making oatmilk is that the first time I used the liquid from the top of the bowl and the second time I really mixed the oats and liquid well before straining so must have gotten more of the starch than the first time. Both soaps have a very nice, smooth, silky feel to them. So, for anyone wondering if you can HP with oatmilk, you can, it works!

If I use 50% water, 50% oatmilk and NO honey, should I insulate it to gel? I don't want to overheat it.

TY

I would add more water thin it out when I HP I use anywhere from 45 to 50% water to oil I like it thinner when I mold it this makes it smoother
I hope this helped sorry took so long to answer I just seen the post :(
