Hi all! I am fairly new to soap making. I would like to use PVC to make some round soaps instead of the bars I have made before, but I don't know how long a piece (or pieces) or the diameter to buy. I will be making a 5# batch.

Can anybody help me out? Thanks!!

hi there! at lowe's they carry the 3" pvc pipe in 2' sections! I take a hacksaw & cut the tube in half...they also have plastic end caps for about .40 cents, just tape around the bottom and no leaks...I always coated lightly with mineral oil...it's been several years since I made round ones, so i'm guessing that you'll need 3 or 4 12" tubes...HTH!

some here have done some tubes using rain gutter down-spouts with admirable results, too.

Thanks for responding so quickly, heartsong! That's exactly the info I needed. It will be a while before I have time to make another batch of soap, but I wanted to get my supplies ready.

Thanks again!

I'm currently using PVC molds. I got mine at Menard's. They are way cheaper for the same thing. I got the end caps too. I haven't found a need to tape them since the fit really tight. I'm going to cut mine in half just so it easier to pour and un-mold. I didn't use a liner or spray anything in mine. I put it in my deep freezer for a half hour, took the caps off, them dropped it on the carpet to get it loose. Once loose I use a piece of wood cut round to fit inside the mold and push the soap out. Hope I helped you out.

use some butchers paper or wax paper , cut to length + 2 inches , and put in tube ,will form a circle and tape end or put cap on , when ready to unmold pull on paper or push out .

Thank you, Galena and robtr31. I'm so hungry for new information and ideas! I really appreciate your help!
