Dawni THANK YOU!

I followed your link and all I can say is WOW! Thank you. Regarding searching this forum - did you put in the search term "lye concentration"? Thank you!

and Hello to the Philippines! I lived in Manila for a little over a year. I miss the Sinegang (did I spell that right?)

Thanks again

Sinigang. My sons love that. Especially the prawns one hehe.. Some Asians store carry the powdered mix in a packet. Just add your meat n veggies ;)

I search from my browser. And I tend to use as many different terms as I can. Then use "site:soapmakingforum.com" after.

So for example, I've used "lye concentration site:soapmakingforum.com" and "lye ratio site:soapmakingforum.com" and water as % and so on..

Oh, and don't thank me, thank @DeeAnna. I suggest reading that whole site actually, now that you're there lol :)

I used to live in the Philippines....Cebu/Mactan Island. I worked for Casino Pilipino. Loved it there...and the people were awesome!

Also - I just learned from this post about "lye concentration" - I have just been running things through the soap calculator and going with it. I went back and saw that you can dictate lye concentration in the calculator - to this point I had not noticed that and had not checked/dictated that.

Is there a guide to recommended levels?

I went back and looked at the PDF of the recipie I made the other day that FLOPPED, and saw that the LC was only 26%.....might this be the culprit?

So many questions!

A very low Lye concentration of 26 means that the soap will have a lot of water in it so will stay softer for longer. After a longer than normal cure it should be ok but it might bend or crack as the water comes out of the bar.

You would be better off using a lye concentration of between 30-33%.
30% will move a little slower and give you a little more time to work with it.
If you are not doing swirls or multiple colours and you are using a loaf mold 33% should be fine.

Cebu! Color me jealous! I lived in Makati - but i travelled to Cebu!
Jealous here as well lol I've been to other places here but Cebu not yet. They don't like us much here, from up north lol but it's a beautiful place.

Makati isn't very far from me and I expect you fit right in, didn't ya? Hehehe it's gotten quite crowded now though..

Sorry for hijacking @Meena lol

About the only thing I remember in Cebuano/Tagalog is “daghang salamat” which is thankyou very much (I think)

Well, if @Dawni is any example, the Philipino (Pilipino?) people certainly are awesome!! <3
Awww you're sweet **hugs**
I think Pilipino, or for a female Pilippina, and another name (please correct me Dawni) is Pinoy
LOVE THIS FORUM!!!!
It's actually Filipino for general and male, Filipina for female.. Pinoy and Pinoy is like short form slang lol

Our old language doesn't have an F hence the P is used to sub, like for the Arabic speaking a B is used to replace P (Bebsi and No Barking)... So many people don't pronounce the way I typed it. As for the country spelling, we were named after then king of Spain, Philip. In our language we say Pilipinas when we speak of our country.

And I love this forum too haha

It's Cebuano. Tagalogs say "maraming salamat" which literally means many thanks.
