So, I accidently bought some of this, also called Palm Olein oil. I spent the day driving around to ethic groceries trying to get what I could locally, which was lots of fun, although frozen snake?! in the Vietnamese Market was a bit freaky.

Anyway, I got some of this palm oil at an African market. I need to use it up, should I plug it in Soap Calc as Fractionated Coconut?

Thanks!

Can't help you on the palm, but...

I don't know much about Palm Olein oil, except that it's use for frying/cooking oil.

I would probably plug it in as Palm Oil or Palm Kernal, since it's seem to be closer than Fractionated coconut. Or you can find the SAP value of Palm Olein oil and do your own calculations.

I am also in Northern Cal and have visited many ethnic stores too. They have great selections of tea at good prices. Are you sure it was frozen snake in the freezer? I didn't know you could sell that as food. What I have seen that I thought was snake was really frozen eel.

Frozen snake I may have a problem with making. I think I could eat snake in a restaurant.. .. .. mabye? :?

But goat is a pretty common meat world over. In fact most countries use goats the same way we use cows. Most of the world drinks goat milk and many ethnic groups use goat for festivals.

<--- very pro goat :)

Run a search on the forum for this. I recall some discussion not too long ago about this.

I have purchased Palm oil that was soft and yellow and some that was hard and white. There are some that when heated, the stearic will separate as it cools. Either way, I have used the calculator SAPs and not had a problem. Might just have been lucky. :D

I have searched the world over, and can find nothing. It is completely liquid and orange. I made a batch plugging it in as palm, and the bars were really soft. That's why I thought plugging it in as fractionated CO would work better, or I could just add more hard oils.

And yes, cambree, it was snake. It didn't say what kind, but the shape was unmistakable. My adventurous daughter even said she'd try it. But when researching it, I read freezing snake makes it chewy. I think maybe I'll pass.

Thank you!

There are restaurants in Kansas City that offer rattlesnake as an appetizer. DH and I went to a steakhouse and ordered it for fun. It was presented in a ball shape and tasted gamey and a bit fishy, which was surprising. Definately not something I would order again but had I not known what it was I never would have guessed it was snake.
