Alright, I know the difference between EO's and FO's, but reading a site yesterday it stated that they used "Natural Fragrance Oils" as well as Essential oils.

I had a bar of their soap scented in Hot Apple Pie, I know that's not a fragrance that 'naturally' occurs in nature, so clearly it's a FO (which is fine!) but is there such thing as a 'natural' fragrance oil? Aren't they all synthetic?

Or is this a marketing gimmick used to make people think they're getting a 'natural' bar of soap?

There are some suppliers that have fragrance oils that they call natural because they are made by using a blend of eo's, resins, naturally derived aromachemicals.

I know WSP has a very small selection of fragrance oils that they call "All Natural Fragrance Oils".

Also, I just wanted to add, that in Bath & Beauty products, natural doesn't mean anything. It means what you want it to mean. In my opinion, whenever anyone mentions "natural" in any part of their descriptions, it's just a marketing gimmick.

I bet using eo's & resins, you could get something that smells similar to apple pie. A little all spice, cinnamon, vanilla or peru balsam, maybe a little rosewood or some other sweet eo/resin.

Yes Genny, I know how much "natural" means LOL! I figured it was just a marketing tool, but wanted to be sure I hadn't missed something. I guess to me if it's a blend of EO's and resin/spices etc then it would do a greater service to the product to list it as such. It seems to me that people fall into 2 categories when buying soap (and I may be wrong!) but you get the "I'll only buy natural products" and the "Oh that's pretty/smells nice I'll take it!" types, and hopefully the people in the first group are actually looking into what's in the products they're buying and not just going on "natural" being on the label.
