I'm getting ready to order more oils (from Soapers Choice) and looking at almond oil. What is the difference between almond oil (cosmetic grade) and sweet almond oil (food grade), besides the price. These are the 2 that are offered. I want to say some of the recipes I've seen call for sweet, but it's over $6 more per unit.

I've used both and can't really tell the difference. I'm sure someone on this board will have more concrete info though. :)

"Almond Oil, Sweet
(Prunus amygdalus dulcis)
100% Pure Sweet Almond. This is not the cosmetic grade almond which is diluted with soybean and other vegetable oils"

I just read this on the Inet - so cosmetic grade almond oil has soybean with it??
Anyone know??

I tried almond oil, didnt think it did anything for the qualities of the soap, now hemp oil that is nice soap, I only use that at 10%.

Very often, cosmetic grade oils are a blend of oils that contain the main oil, in this case, Almond, but are not composed strictly of that oil. They have the same profile as Almond, but they're a blend of oils and you don't know what, aside from Almond oil is in them. That's why they're cheaper. They're not straight Almond oil.

That's true of SC's Cosmetic Grade Avocado oil, too. I know that oil contains Avocado and Hemp and some other oils but I don't know what the other oils are. I know that because I asked when I noticed the price difference between Cosmetic grade and refined (food grade) and they told me.

I don't buy cosmetic grade oils because it's not worth risking the allergy
factor of an unknown oil or a shorter shelf life than the oil I want to buy has.

Plus I can't label accurately if I don't know what is in something.

HTH

if the oil is "refined" no proteins left in oil. there for not allergic is what I was told when I asked Mike at soapers choice.
he said save your money refined almond oil is just as good for soaping.
