Pumpkin Soap

Hi!
I'm starting up my Fall soaps and was very interested in making pumpkin soap. What scents would you recommended to use? I want something that will actually stick. Also, would I add the pumpkin at trace? I usually add everything in with my oils.

I followed Amanda's recipe and HP'd the soap. She actually mixes the pumpkin with the lye like you would a milk soap (freeze it if you are going to do this!). I also used a pumpkin pie FO from Brambleberry. They have a few and so does Peak. I can't really speak to which ones stick the best but you could try the scent review forum to see other people's opinions. Good luck!

I did a pumpkin soap last year and I added the puree with the oils, BUT discounted the water. I also added some spices...I.E. "pumpkin pie spice" from Mc Cormick. I haven't soaped with it yet, but I bought pumpkin crunch from WSP and the smell is awesome!

Bear in mind that most pumpkins FOs will discolor your soap to a dark brown, at least that's been my experience. I add my pumpkin at trace if I want it to remain a light-ish pumpkin color, and add only EOs. If I'm aiming for a holiday pumpkin scent I usually use pumpkin puree in my lye water, more pumpkin puree mixed with buttermilk powder at trace, and an FO I know is going to brown. Either way they're very popular

The easiest way I've found to make pumpkin puree with fresh pumpkin is to slice a pie pumpkin in half, place it in a lasagna dish in about an inch of water, and bake at 250 degrees F until it's tender enough to scoop out into a blender, then blend to puree. I love fresh organic pumpkins from my local farmers' markets

My pumpkin soap last year and I added it at trace and it riced on me so this year I will also be stick blending into my oils. I agree with WSP's Pumpkin Crunch ( I have the original version ) but I am saving that one for candles. I want a more pumpkin than spice scent for mine this year so I will be trying AHRE's Sweet Pumpkin!
