I made a batch yesterday and this morning there was oil under the box. I took it out of the mold this evening (24 hours later) and it was still very oily. I cut into it and it crumbled. What did I do wrong? Here is the recipe I used.

11.3oz Coconut Oil
11.7oz Palm Oil
15.5oz Olive Oil
3.9oz Almond Oil
6.1oz Lye
15.5 Goats Milk
2 1/3 tablespoon lavender oil (added at trace)
1 tablespoon Almond Oil added at trace

This is the first time I've used this recipe. Any advice is welcome. I am new to soap making.

Was the goat's milk very cold or slushy? It's possible that your soap might have overheated. There is no need to add any oils at trace. The lye is still active at this point and it will take whatever it wants. Calculate all your oils/butters up front and add them all in the beginning.

The goat's milk soap was very cold. After adding the lye I checked the temp and it was only around 100. I added the lye very slow (it took about 20 mins). Thank you for the temp about adding the oil at trace. This was a recipe I found online so I will try it again without adding the oil at trace.

I have used a recipe similar to yours - I'm willing to bet it was the oil added at trace that you saw on your mold.

I just made a batch of mocha where I mixed some of the oil with cocoa to use as a swirl. I accidentally poured too much oil into the cocoa and I ended up with oil on the bottom/sides of the mold. After I unmolded I just wiped off the excess with a paper towel.

How soon after unmolding did you cut? What type of cutter did you use? I have found that if I cut soon after unmolding I get better cuts than if I wait. Right now I just use a knife and wipe off the excess soap after each cut, but soon I'll have a fancy-dancy cutter!

ETA - I have switched from adding my FO at trace to adding it to the oils directly. I had problems with the FO not blending nicely and pooling up as brown spots. Adding the FO to the oils before adding the lye has solved that!
