has any one used poppy seeds for a pencil line and top? does the CP method change the colour of the seeds or do they remain the same colour>

I find that there is a little "bloom" of color around the seeds.

Be sure to use fresh poppy seeds as the seeds can go bad over time and compromise your soap if you take awhile to use it up.

Make sure to keep your poppy seeds in the fridge so that they stay fresher longer. I haven't done a pencil line with the seeds but I do love them in my soaps.

thanks both - im trying a batch tomorrow! just started doing pencil lines, used cocoa powder with great results but want to try other colours/textures....

I love using poppy seeds as a pencil line it looks great and feels great too. I found that the colors did not change.

This might be a silly question - when you say "fresh" poppy seeds, do you mean just recently purchased, like in the spice isle of the grocery store...or is there a fresher way of purchasing?

I buy mine from the health foods store and they keep them in the fridge isle. they have a shelf life of 2-5 years if you store them properly. (in the fridge or freezer in an air tight container) i think your safe if you buy them and stick them in the freezer as soon as you get home. (but check the expiration date before you purchase)

I buy them bulk and there is no expiration date. I guess I will have to assume they are fresh and bottle and fridge them at home.

I would love to see pics of your poppy seed pencil line when you are finished.
