I'm starting my research on a dog soap and came across this scent. Has anyone tried the Pooch Smooch FO from Nature's Garden? Here's their description: "melody of sweet melon and crisp cucumber accented by hints of orange slices, violet petals, and fresh lily" It sounds like it could be pretty girly. Which is fine...if you got a little girly dog...

And just as long as I'm on the topic, most recipes I found have EO's rather than FO's. Dog skin is clearly different in the PH than human skin, so you need to accomodate for that so are EO's better for Fido? Or is this just a preference thing?

I wash my dog with my oatmeal buttermilk and honey soap. It helps calm her skin. No added EOs or FOs and she smelled great after. I find the more stuff in it the more it irritates her skin.

Hmm...interesting. That makes a ton of sense to not use any fragrance. Thanks.

:) Another kernel of knowledge to add to the dog soap page in my notebook.

If anyone else has an opinion or experince to chime in with, I'd love to hear it. Whether it's the Pooch Smooch or any other type of FO.

I know nothing about dog soaps, but I do have a dog and I'd have to say that scent free sounds like a good plan to me. Pets seem to know when a scent is artificial--EOs included--and often look disgusted by them, yet they go around sniffing each others butts. Go figure!

Ain't that the truth! I've known our pooches to go rolling in some pretty nasty stuff in the yard. Ewww. :)

Point taken about the fragrances! Dogs aren't gonna care what they smell like. Thanks for putting it simple enough terms for me to understand.

I make a mild soap for my furr baby and use essential oils of lemongrass and tea tree. The tea tree has mild antibacterial properties and the lemongrass makes puppy smell nice. I have never tried fo in my dog soap, but many commercial doggie shampoos are heavily scented with fragrance oils. I guess it would just depend on how sensitive your pup's skin is...Mine has never had any skin irritation from the essential oils in the soap that I make. :)

I have Pooch Smooch but haven't soaped it yet. I use an EO blend in my dog shampoo, but I've had requests for a more perfume-type scent. Pooch Smooch smells fruity OOB. I don't get any violet or lily notes, but maybe they would come out after soaping. I also purchased their Purrs and Paws, supposedly cat-safe. That one is more on the floral side.
