I got a good deal on Pomace, but it was so green, I decided to just go with it. These were dark olive green at pour, and I thought it was interesting how much they lightened up. They're just OO & Oatmeal, unscented. Now to be patient for the long cure :)

Wow! That is green! I use pomace for my OO almost exclusively, but the color once saponification completes seems to vary from brand to brand. Last Christmas I made orange and anise soaps with pomace. I dont remember the exact recipe, but it was around 50% pomace and it came out just about as green as yours. I wasn't happy at all, but I still gave them out for Christmas gifts. One of my dear friends didn't use them for a long time. They were used for decoration in her bathroom, 3" pvc rounds with a star anise pressed into each one. Over time, probably 4-5 months, they turned a cream color, which surprised me a little!
I went into the Cash and Carry a couple weeks ago to buy a new case of pomace, and found that they have a new supplier for pomace, called Marco's. I soaped with it last night, an all OO recipe and a 2/3 OO and 1/3 CO, and CPOP'ed. To my surprise, they are both cream-colored, with only a subtle variation between the recipes.
Does anyone else have experience with the variations between pomace brands?

Since this is my first one, I couldn't tell you, but that's interesting to know, thank you. Since I always buy what's on sale, (this obsession is hard on the purse) I'll surely be using different brands, I'll keep an eye on that!

Do you make EV OO soaps also? I am wondering which you (or anyone else) like better and why? I've got OO on my brain so often lately, you'd think I was Popeye.

Ohhhhhhh, they look so inviting, i'm looking forward to hearing how perform once cured, I think the plain bars look great.

I don't really use EVOO. I haven't noticed enough difference between EVOO and pomace to justify the extra expense. Soaping has turned out to be a very expensive hobby for me, so anywhere I can save a bit without compromising quality is a plus. I get 6 one gallon jugs of pomace in eastern WA for about $70, so that's become my staple base oil. So far, I am really impressed with the color of Marco's pomace oil.
By the way, I really like your soap here, Saltydog. It's a very pretty green tone, and your edges are very well done.

Your soap looks outstanding, bet it'll be creamy and soothing! Yum!

I love your idea of making an OO soap with oatmeal in it. Think I know what I'll be making next!

I've made castille with both OO and EVOO. Sometimes the EVOO is cheaper (in the Aussie supermarkets) than the OO ... so I buy whatever is the cheapest. MY EVOO castille is still a little 'green' looking and the OO castille is almost white. Love them both to look at!
