Ok...I have some nice soaps I've created, and I want to make gifts of them. It seems the soaps I see in stores are ultra smooth and glossy whereas mine, while very nice, are dull. And rough around the edges. So what's the secret to getting a glossy appearing soap? Is it the packaging, or can you actually "polish" soap?

You can buff them with nylon pantyhose...or dip them in water...or spray with alcohol. A lot of it depends on your mold. My square silicone molds make a glossy appearance.

you can smooth the rough edges by washing your bars. I gently rub a soft cloth over them, under running water. It also helps rinse off any ash, which could be making your soaps look "dull" Oh, I wait till mine are 4-6 weeks old.

"No Honey, those pantyhose in the back seat of my car are for buffing soap!"

Wifey: "Whose pantyhose are these?!" :-x

You: "They're mine! I swear!"

Wifey: "They're...yours?!" :wtf:

You: "Yes! They're MY pantyhose!"

Wifey:"Is there something we need to discuss?" :eh:

You: "For soap! They're for soap!"

Wifey: "Well that's a novel excuse..."

True story. My wife found a new, in the package, pair of navy hose in my car that were NOT her size. She asked where they came from and I said (honestly) I had no idea. She dropped it and that was that as far as she was concerned, but it was driving me crazy for months. Finally I remembered a work associate had come to town for a funeral. She had torn her hose on the way and bought another pair, but she forgot to stop and change on our way to the funeral. She offered to call my wife to vouch for me, but my awesome wife said no need because she was never worried. I'm a lucky man.

Back on topic. I tried polishing with a tube sock....both wet and dry. I also tried misting and buffing with 70% rubbing alcohol. All worked great. Thanks again for the suggestions. You guys are going to make a "soaper" out of me yet!
