Ok I made my first small batch of body butter...
I used...
2 ozs mango butter
2 ozs shea butter
2 tsp coconut oil
1 tsp evening primrose oil
2 tsp cornstarch
pink grapefruit essential oil

it seems really oily which my skin needs but is there a way to decrease the oil in the future?

What about using kaolin clay would that work or absorb all the oil?

BTW it smells wonderful.

well considering it's 99.9% oil - it's gonna be oily.

you might try using some cyclomethicone or IPM in it, but it'll still be oily.

I don't like clays (or cornstarch) in whipped butters - remember they will stay on your skin.

so your saying use less oil maybe just 1 tsp coconut oil or evening primrose but not both or less of each.

hi there!

my skin gets extra dry-especially in the winter. i've tried to make body butters, but they are just too greasy for me.

i take 6 oz shea butter (or any combo of butters you like) melt it slightly to soften it, then put the bowl in an ice bath and using a hand mixer whip it until it gets peaks like whipping cream and then add 4 oz ice cold aloe vera gel (the thick clear kind) keep whipping until soft peaks form again. i add germaben II, then scoop into jars. this is nice for dry skin, diaper rash, sunburns and all manner of skin irritations.

you can get fancy adding calendula, chamomile or any skin-friendly extract or e/o.

hope this helps!

Cutting back on your primrose or coconut oil will not cut down on the oil content because butter is oil also. The corn starch should have helped w/ that though.

if I warm it up a bit and add more cornstarch will that help?

Hi heartsong - that sounds like a wonderful body butter....please excuse me asking, but I thought that adding an oil to a water ingredient wouldn't emulsify? Do you add anything else for this purpose? Or does this work all by itself (very intriguing.... ). How long will this butter keep for, and do you need to refrigerate it? TIA!

Tanya :)
