Hey! I'm new here and to soapmaking, and I would like to know if it's possible to pipe an already set soap.

Thank you! :)

Not really sure by what you mean with 'already set'. Far as I know, 'set' means it's gone solid, or mostly solid and I can't imagine that being pipeable unless you were able to put a whole lot of pressure behind it. Soap batter at thick trace is pipeable, pretty sure that's how the pretty cupcakes with the 'frosting' are made. Thinner trace is sort of pipeable, but you won't get frilly swirls and stuff out of piping soap at thin or medium trace.

Hey Kittish, you're absolutely right.

What I mean is if it's possible to pipe "on" an already set soap. My mistake!

Thank you!

Set for how long.
The short answer is, yes, depending on how old the 'set' soap is, if it's still on a loaf form or is it already cut? Already cut soaps I think would have a hard time staying on, I think the piping would just plop off.

What jcandleattic said, how old the soap you want to pipe on? You can increase the odds of it succeeding by roughing up the surface you want to pipe on, scoring with a fork or something. Gives the new soap something to bond with. Also, if the soap you're adding the piping to isn't already gelled, then CPOP to send the whole thing through gel phase might help the piping adhere.

You can totally pipe on already set soap! both the loaf and the individual bars! I've done this but I've never tried on a bar that was more than a few days old. The frosting did not pop off its all very solid.

Thank you so much guys!!

Yes I want to pipe on set bars because I don't really like that "cross sectiom frosting" effect. Well I'm gonna give it a try and then let you all lnow! :)
