If you have never used pine tar before, there are some good pine tar threads on this forum that you might want to read first. I strongly recommend starting with a small batch. It can be quite difficult to work with, and you have to move fast. Trying it for the first time in a 6lb batch is a recipe for disaster.

Whatever amount of pine tar you decide to use, you must put it into the soap calculator so that you have the correct amount of lye.

Thank you!

I have never made pine tar soap, but if I understand things right, pine tar will only move fast if used in cold process. Since Kimberly is making hot process, accelleration should not be a problem, I think.

With hot process you can just stir it in after the cook. I have made it this way at 20% and 15%. Keep in mind that the more pine tar you add, the softer your soap will be. I also did it once adding at trace. If you're doing HP, I didn't see any benefit to doing it that way. I won't do it that way again. It stinks up your kitchen more!
