When you say "full water" do you mean by the % weight of oils? As in that particular field in soapcalc? So a recipe that has 500g of oils you'll use 500g water?

Full water is actually the 38% option. There is likely a reason why that is called "full water" but now that you mention it, it is not overly clear. It might well be historically the default ratio and so lives on with that name

For me the full water rationale is 10% water discount or 30% Lye Strength. When doing HP I prefer to use 30% lye solution as it helps keep the batter smoother plus I do use Sodium Lactate for a smoother pour too.

The one thing I have mastered with my shaving soap (which is HP) is having my soap in PVC pipe not get those air bubble on the top. It wastes soooo much soap. I'll have it perfectly smooth in the pour and I slam my pipes down to get out any air and I still have this happen. grrrrr

Cool soap. I am trying to go to the horse equipment shop... 30 minute drive to get pine tar for soaping. Tried the local farm equipment supply, but wasn't carrying it.

I too plan on making some for christmas. Cheers!

I made mine with the Auson pine tar and agree, the smell was warm and reminded me of a camp at night - pricey but well worth it, I believe. Made mine CP with the pine tar at 10%. It's so smooth and dark! Love the way it looks and smells. It's sitting now curing, it will be done by the end of October. The red one is an Egyptian pink clay soap.

What exactly do you do with pine tar soap?? Is it for medicinal purposes??

I cut the end from one of the molded cylinders and used it this morning to wash my hair. The stuff is great. Plenty of lather and 'soapyness.' I still have half a container of PT left, I'm thinking of using it to make another batch.

Thanks to the forum members for posting info ... I'm glad I tried it!!

Dave
