Hi all,
I am a newbie to cold process soap :)

I made my first batch of soap 2 days ago. Super excited :)

Do I have to Ph test every single bar of soap or just one bar from this batch??

A bit confused, if you have hundreds of bars of soap for sale, do you test them all individually??

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

There is absolutely no reason for doing a ph test at all for CP soap making. I am not from the UK so I am not sure if the EU or the UK requires ph testing but it is not required in the United States. At least not for lye soap.

One reason is because you can't adjust the ph in CP soap making. There are other reasons but for some reason I can't think of them right now.

@senaraj -- Your question is totally unrelated to the question asked by the original poster. There are two reasons why you don't want to do this --

(a) you are "hijacking" the original poster's discussion by changing the subject. That is not polite to the original poster
and
(b) people with answers are not nearly as likely to see your question here. You won't get as much help.

The solution to both issues is to start a new thread and ask your question in that thread.

Also, please use the search engine. There are other threads in which total fatty matter has been discussed --

@Eva-Victoria I agree with Todd - no need to pH-test your soaps unless that is required for selling. Since you are new to soap-making, I assume that's not your intent, and you just want to know that your soap is skin-safe. In other words, you don't want them to have excess lye, or to be "lye-heavy."

To be sure your soaps aren't lye-heavy, you can do the "zap test." If you put that phrase into the search bar, above, you will find lots of threads telling you how to do that. You can also do a search on "lye heavy soap" and learn how to spot the other, visual signs of that.
