What percentage superfat is recommended for a shampoo bar? Google is coming up with people saying everything from 0 to 5%, what do you all think is best?

Running out of bottled shampoo and really want to try a bar!

anyone know? I don't want to end up with a whole batch that gives me a greasy head by superfatting it, but will it actually do that? Or is it just a matter of personal preference? >.<

Hmmm. I'm as far from being an expert as anybody can be, but, for what I read, 0% superfat is a no-no.
So far, I've made 2 batches of soap and, as you know, the last one wasn't that great, but I've used both of them for my hair, and they both felt great, and left my hair really clean. Both batches had a 5% superfat.

Then again, my hair is about 1/4 inch long, so I may not be the best example to follow...

Okay thanks :) I was worried that 5% would be too much, I guess not!

Start at 5% and then test it out and work out if you need to go up or down, depending on your hair. I wouldn't want too much free oil in it if it was for my hair, cos I get an oily scalp on day 2 after washing anyway.

I have stupidly hard water and have to use an acidic rinse after washing to avoid having a gummy residue. Any of the rinses work for me, I've used ACV rinses, lemon juice, lime juice, etc.

My favorite, though, is a tiny bit of citric acid dissolved in a pitcher of water. It does a great job without any odor or odd slimy feel. If you're feeling really adventurous, you can add a couple of drops of EOs to the rinse, my hair currently smells like rosemary and lavender. :D

i have a water softerner(well water). i use all of my bars, they all very in superfat. my favorite is 8%bar lemon-lime made with rice bran, coconut, palm and castor.

i do occationally use vinegar rinse, sometimes with some marshmallow, nettles, and horsetail tea and eo's
