Anybody tried this? On several occassions, I've had people who want to try out soap making and we get together and make some soap at my house. I unmold the soap and give it to them a few days later. I saw some of these things at HomeGoods, and I thought it would be really convienent and cheap. Just pour the soap in the paper containers and let them take it home.

It's my opinion that silicone bakeware should not be used as soap molds. I have a silicone bread loaf that did not maintain the soap's shape well, leading me to buy some loaf-molds from WSP.

edit: I just "woke up" and realized it was paper you referred to. I have higher doubts that the paper would maintain it's shape unless it was a particularly have paper material.

People use cardboard boxes lined with paper as soap molds, with good results. If these have the same rigidity and liquid tightness, I don't see why they wouldn't work.

The biggest worry I would have is the transport home. Even if the molds work, and they probably would, how safe is it for these people to transport it back to their house?

Are you talking about the heavy carboard with a waxy finish that people bake breads etc in to give as gifts??

If so, I think it's worth a try, it's just wax coated heavy cardboard. if the soap doesn't come out easily you could run a knife around the edge and peel the cardboard off. Probably wouldn't be the prettiest thing but I think it would work.

I have heard of people using them for soap molds and say they work great, but I agree that I would be concerned about transporting it before the soap is really well set-up.

Soaping 101 did a funnel swirl inside a pringles can. It has a lid for easy transporting.
